On the green at the west extremity of the church a flag pole was erected by the parents of and to the memory of Edward Baynton Vardy, killed in action on 19 January 1943 in Algiers. Specialist examination revealed that the flag pole was beyond restoration and on 8 March 2006 a new flag pole was erected at the sole charge of an anonymous donor. Here are some photographs of the St George's flag flying from the new flag pole to celebrate Easter 2006. It is intended to create a tabernacle box in the style of the original pole and to mount the original dedication plate on the new structure.
